Backflow Prevention and Cross-Connections - Protecting Your Drinking Water Supply

In 1974 Congress established the Safe Water Drinking Act to protect human health from contaminants in drinking water and to prevent contamination of existing groundwater supplies. The act requires many actions to protect drinking water. One of these actions is the installation and maintenance of an approved backflow prevention assembly where the water service connects to City Water Supply whenever a potential hazard is determined to exist in the customers system. Without proper protection assemblies, cross connections can occur. A cross connection can occur when a drinking water source and an unapproved source of water are combined. Examples of this can be a process in a factory that uses water or something as simple as a hose in a swimming pool. Backflow can occur if pressure is lost and water flows backwards into the pipes because of back siphonage or backpressure. A backflow preventer assembly is a device that breaks the back pressure or siphonage and stops the backwards flow of water. These devices require regular testing and approval by certified Tester. We have certified testers who can test, maintain, repair and install backflow connection devices. We can also survey internal water lines in a building to assure that there are no cross connections and recommend installation and type of backflow assembly that would protect system.
